Study programmesThe College Of Central Finland, Keski-Suomen opisto, was founded as early as 1894 and it is one of the oldest schools in the region.The institutes firm foundation is built upon its experienced personnel who offer professional education and training in the field of adult education. Vocational training is focused on youth and leisure instruction while the courses provided in the field of all-round education include first year university examinations and courses by the open university. In August 1998 Keski-Suomen Opisto became a member of the Humanities Polytechnic focusing on civic and youth work. Today we have 190 students altogether in the college, 100 of them studying in the Humanities Polytechnic. LocationThe College Of Central Finland is situated right in the heart of Finland, in the middle of beautiful waterways and peaceful environment and yet being easily accessible from all parts of Finland. The town of Suolahti has got 6000 inhabitants, but only 40 kilometres away lies the lively capital of Central Finland, Jyväskylä, with about 80 000 inhabitants. FacilitiesOur accommodation capacity is 170 beds. There are both single and twin rooms available and one room furnished to accommodate handicapped students.The institutes very own restaurant offers delicious dishes at reasonable prices. The residential halls are modern and the equipment and teaching facilities are up-to-date. Leisure ActivitiesThere are concerts and other performances every week in the Suolahtisali concert hall on the campus. Suolahti town has got a newly restored swimming pool with steam bath facilities within walking distance. For outdoor activities there is a number of alternatives both in winter and summer. The lakes, rivers and rapids offer you a great chance for canoeing or you can go on an organized cruise in the summertime. The nature trails are excellent for hiking almost any time of the year. Because snow in the winter is always guaranteed in this area, cross-country skiing is a popular form of recreation and slopes for snowboarding are only 9 kilometres away. The indoor skating rink is almost next to the campus area, there you can go skating, play ice-hockey or enjoy the ice-hockey matches every week during the season. | |
